Winger Sone Aluko is happy to reunite with the national team after two years in football’s international wilderness.
The Hull City man has not been part of the Super Eagles since he was last invited for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in 2012 but he is happy to be part of the squad that would play the 2015 AFCON qualifiers against Congo (on Saturday) and South Africa’s Bafana Bafana on Wednesday away from home.
“It feels very great to be back, it’s an honour to play for your country and I feel happy to be here again. I am looking forward to the match with confidence and just hope we go out and get victory,”Aluko said.
“If I get my chance, I will give my best, but if not, no problem. That is the coaches’ decision I am not going to question them.
“They have welcomed me very well. I have known many of the players before; I played with some of them at the U-20 level and I met some previously in the Eagles camp. The atmosphere here is very good.
“We are all ready, everybody is fit physically and mentally. We’ve been working hard. Though we haven’t seen enough of the Congolese but we cannot say they are a bad side. We respect our opponents and are ready for them.”
Of course I didn’t come here to sit on the bench.”
