The persistent disgraceful internal crisis of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) plus rumoured frame up criminal charges against Chief James Onanefe Ibori may have prompted a crucial meeting of IBORI’s political family to review their membership of the party.
Unconfirmed sources revealed that the group also discussed the London legal tussle where Crown prosecution are trying to unravel the shady deals involved in the investigation, arraignment and sentencing of the political colosus.
The meeting also pointed accusing fingers at former President Goodluck Jonathan and the PDP for master minding Ibori’s ordeal, who at a time was perceived as President Jonathan’s arch-enemy while he was Vice President under Late President Musa Ya’Adua.
It was alleged that Ibori had perfected plans to send Jonathan away from Aso Rock before the unfortunate happened and the President died. The Delta political master strategist single handedly influenced President Ya’Adua to appoint six of his associates as Ministers including the Minister of Justice.
Upon assumption of office, the source further stated, President Jonathan demanded for a pound of flesh from Ibori who escaped to Dubai to avoid the dragnet of Jonathan. He was later arrested in Dubai and taken to London where he got jail sentence and held in prison till date.
The Ibori camp are now strategizing to abandon PDP for witch-hunting their political leader as can be seen from recent findings that certain details were cooked up to implicate Ibori so as to keep him in Prison to enable President Jonathan run his government without fear of impeachment by the Ibori political network.
Now that Jonathan is out of the way, positive strategies are now in force to permanently kill the criminal charges against Ibori so as to free him. If things workout, the OGIDIGBORIGBO of Delta politics may return to Nigeria very soon to commence state and national politics.
A special team is in London right now to put finishing touches to the release of the dogged politician. To this effect, some of his men are already in APC and many more will abandon PDP in preparation for the return of their leader.
It is the general view of the IBORI camp that since PDP leaders conspired to send him to prison in London, it will be morally wrong for the group to remain in the party upon his return home.
As things are, the final decision of the group will be dependent on wider consultations with Chief Ibori’s political associates, some of whom are now power brokers and chieftains of APC, to work out modalities and leadership slots to be allocated to them upon successful joining the party.
This development, though yet to be fine tuned, may come to light sooner than later.
