Members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, VGN recently arrested a 9-man kidnap gang who abducted, killed and buried a senior lecturer of the department of Education Foundation at the College of Education, Warri, Delta State.
The lecturer, Mr Isaac Dittimiya hails from Kiagbodo, Burutu local government area of the state and was said to have died from exhaustion after him and four other kidnap victims were made to trek hundreds of kilometers to a kidnapper’s den at Agbarho following his abduction on February 15.
It was gathered that the hoodlums immediately buried the victim in a shallow grave by the railway passing Agbarho in an attempt to cover their tracks.
Giving details on how the grave was discovered, the VGN Delta State commander, Monday Owhosiri said: “We had been on the trail of this gang and our efforts recently paid off with the arrest of members of the gang who made confessional statements leading to the exhuming of the decomposing corpse of the lecturer.”
Speaking further, Owhosiri who is also the Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Security, said: “A total of nine members of the gang were arrested and they have given details of how the lecturer and two other persons died in their custody while awaiting ransom payment from their relatives.”
Commending the efforts of the VGN, younger brother to the victim, Henry Dittimiya gave details of how the family waited endlessly for news of the victim only to be told he was dead while in custody of his abductors and has since being buried in an unknown location.
He said: “Despite the death of my brother, his abductors collected ransom from us twice, but we only got information of his death sometime in March. With the locating of his remains, we would give him a proper burial as should be required.”
