The Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, HRM Emmanuel Ekemejewa Sideso, Abe 1, JP, OON yesterday presented N5.4million to about 160 students at the 2024 annual Uvwie Scholarship Award among them a young talented fulani student, Miss Ummul-khairi Ibrahim who got full scholarship to university level.
During the presentation of the award in Effurun, Delta state, the Uvwie monarch advised youths to take their education seriously as it would pave the way for their future development and advancement
He promised to continue to support the Delta government in the area of education as this would reduce crime in the society, if most youths were educated and empowered.
Abe 1 explained that the scholarship scheme was to encourage brilliant Uvwie youths and others to excel in their education and urged parents to take the education of their children seriously so that they would become good leaders for tomorrow
The Uvwie Monarch thanked the state government, Uvwie chiefs and others who had continued to contribute to the scholarship fund.
Also speaking on the occasion, Prof. J.B Arubyi, Chairman, Uvwie Education/Scholarship Committee recalled that the annual event began in 2010 after the ascension of HRM Emmanuel Sideso, Abe 1 and that many Uvwie indigenes and others have enjoyed the award from primary to tertiary school.
He explained that the total financial implication for this year’s scholarship award was N5.365,000 given to about 160 students and that they must collect their cheques within two weeks or else it would be assumed that the candidate was no longer interested
Prof. Arubayi reminded the beneficiaries that the scholarship was not automatic as it was subject to the student’s performance at the end of every session which must be submitted to the education committee and warned that any student who failed to submit his or her end of session report would automatically lose their scholarship.
It will be recalled that Miss Ummul-khairi Ibrahim, a Primary 5 pupil of David Ejoor Primary School, Effurun Barracks, Delta State came to limelight when she presented a poem titled ‘Together as one people” at the palace of the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom during the Uvwie prayers day on Wednesday, October 2, 2024
The Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council, Hon. Anthony Ofoni recognized Miss Ummul-khairi Ibrahim’s exceptional talent with a generous award package of N50,000 cash, school wears, learning materials and a maintenance plan for her academic welfare.
Hon. Ofoni, while speaking to the pupil’s parents at the Uvwie Secretariat stated that he was committed to empowering young minds and supporting academic excellence in Uvwie Local Government Area.
The council boss named Miss Ummul-khairi, ‘Efe’, stating that she was now an Uvwie indigene, advising her to take her studies seriously and keep up the good work.
