A faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance has begun moves to woo back members of the party who had defected to the Peoples Democratic Party.
The National Chairman of the APGA faction, Chief Maxi Okwu, told our correspondent on Thursday that the mass defection of its prominent members was worrisome and an indictment on the Chief Victor Umeh-led executive of the party.
He faulted the Umeh’s leadership for celebrating the exit of the lawmakers and calling them names for defecting from the party.
He said, “The continued exit in droves of our members in the National Assembly and some state assemblies is most worrisome. The latest in this ugly saga was the resignation as leader and Chairman Board of Trustees of Victor Umeh’s APGA, by Chief Peter Obi, the erstwhile governor of Anambra State.
“It is a very sad development for the party. It is also an indictment of the current leadership.
“Every serious party guards jealously its membership. But the reverse is the case in APGA. The other side in our party celebrated the exit of our members and called them names.
“Did you hear any word from the Government House in Awka? Mum is the word. On our part, we are focused on trying to recover our mandate to lead the party at the Supreme Court.”
