Little Miss Success Adegor have become a household name all over the Country since her video went viral. Alot of us from the state have taking up the task of holding the State government to account for the complete neglect of our educational system. And we must not loss focus. The issue in the last one week has been about the infrastructures in our public schools, while we forgot the low level of human development which was very evident in little Success. Though it’s not her own making.
“AS DEM SAY DEM STUBBORN,I GO TELL DEM SAY I STUBBORN PASS DEM”
Those were the words that came out of a 7 year old. But not many of us have taken the time to query these words and behaviour of that little girl. All we do is hail her actions. These are questions we are not asking
(1) Who are the “DEM” this 7 years old is claiming to be more stubborn than? Her Head Teacher and teachers who sent her away from school?
Every right thinking human being should be worried at those words coming from the mouth of such a small girl. If a little girl of 7 says she will prove to her head teacher that have taught for 30 years that she is more stubborn than her, then we have a serious problem as a people. Though those of us from the state know the level of indiscipline, bad upbringing among children in the area which goes with them into adulthood. We have lived with it for so long without knowing with the Slogan “WARRI NO DEY CARRY LAST” even though we are at the lowest bottom.
(2) What is that thing inside her that prompted her utter such words?
One thing that was very obvious in the little girl is very bad parenting. That the girl said she was more stubborn than her HT and teachers shows she is also more stubborn than her parents. That is a failure on the part of her parents and the environment she was raised which is very common in Delta State. It’s something sickening. A child from the South West part of Nigeria for instance would have been in such a situation but wouldn’t have used such words and put up such behaviour. And the message would have received the same attention if not more. We can all shout as much as we like but no decent responsible parent will wish little Success behaviour for their daughter’s.
(3) With what language are the Children taught in schools in Delta State? Pidgin English?
That girl just like many of her mates can only speak the one we call the “Warri Pidgin” at 7. Those in secondary school aren’t better in anyway. That is enough for us to ask those handling our schools some questions. The problem is not just about Success but the entire state.
But in truth little Miss Success Adegor is the very clear example of the failure of governance and bad parenting in our state. And the earlier we deal with this issues the better for us.
