Following the mounting insecurity in Cross River over the past six months , the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a joint statement has advised the state governor Senator Ben Ayade to resign honourably to avoid being disgraced out of office.
Ayade has failed to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people who elected him into office over a year ago, the APC claimed
A statement signed by the acting state chairman of APC, Sir John Ochala and the National Vice Chairman, South South, Ntufam Hillard Eta, said the call became necessary as Ayade had failed completely in the governance of the state.
The statement recalled the spat of kidnapping, cultists and armed robbery in the state for months and wondered why he should not resign from office.
It said “only recently, dare-devil armed robbers and cultists held the peace of the state by the jugular. Robbers even operated in broad daylight, communities have engaged themselves in war and destruction of lives and property. Incidentally, all of these are happening with impunity and ignominy because of the complete absence of governance in the state “.
According to the statement, “this present state of affairs has caused us to think in different directions. That the lack of governance exhibited by the Ayade’s government could possibly be a smoke screen about a criminal agenda that targets chieftains and members of the All Progressives Congress in the state to undo the party of its rising profile which had given the PDP sleepless nights “.
The statement added ” we are constrained to argue that this complete lack of governance is driven by crass comicality and or infantile petulance of the governor himself”.
It therefore warned that “indeed APC would not take lightly the ineptitude of the Ayade’s government in the state, and called on the State House of Assembly to rise above their party and parochial sentiments by doing the state the favor of impeaching the governor”.
It regretted that nothing is happening in education, housing, agriculture and health which are areas that could benefit the masses.
“All these failures clearly reveal the fact that Ayade was and is still not prepared for governance, the statement added.”.
It called on security operatives in the state to ignore Ayade’s infantile tendencies and do their bid of protecting lives and property of all Cross Riverians irrespective of tribe or religion.
Cross Riverians, it said might have learnt great lessons from this lack of governance in the state and consequently do a reappraisal that projects a better, secure future for all as the next democratic dispensation approaches, the statement added
