Vitalis Ugoh, Calabar: Armed Robbers numbering over 10 men and women yesterday held businessmen and residents hostage as they robbed along one of the major and busiest street in Calabar popularly known as Marian Road for several hours just as the convoy of the state governor, Senator Ben Ayade was few kilometers ahead without any invention.
Victims of the broad day robbery who quickly escaped and ran to lay complain to security men guarding the convoy were ignored as they were advised to report to the State Housing Police station for help if they so wish.
One of the residents described the incidence as embarrassing given the fact the governor arrived the state capital today been the July 6, 2016.
The robbers who paraded their sophisticated weapons robbed shops between Samsung Electronic Stores down to the Crunches fast food shop.
An eyewitness account told deltanewsroom.com correspondent that one of the robber who wore a red clothe also tied it around the noozle of his AK-47, and with ammunition curled over his shoulder.
He was seen walking confidently and was shooting sporadically into the air without fear of any attack.
Also narrating his ordeal, another victim along Eyo Ita building on Marian Road said “it is a shame to witness what is happening today in Calabar with this kind of governor”.
There was a pandamoina as people who came out with their families at Crunches scampered and ran helplessly for their lives.

Another victim name withheld said that the police did not respond to calls to come to rescue the situation even when they were contacted.
However several hours when the armed robbers had gone the police and promised to arrest the robbers.
Just last weekend, militants and cultists ceased the government house and took over the security guards at the governor’s office hostage and demanded demanding for payments of their stipends.
When contacted, the Chief press secretary and SA to the governor on media Mr. Christian Ita denied that militants did not take over government house. But that they only demonstrated the lack of payment of their stipends.
