MEN of the Niger State Police Command have arrested Bara’atu Rabiu in Diakpe Village of Shiroro Local Government Area of the state for cutting off the private part of her one-month old stepson in a fit of jealousy.
Mrs Rabiu, 22, apparently got envious of the son her husband’s other wife just had and decided to castrate him as a result. According to the police, the mother of the one month old baby did not give birth for seven years after her marriage hence the family decided to get another wife for her husband leading to the marriage of Bara’atu .
It was, however, gathered when the marriage to Bara’atu was to be conducted it was discovered that the first wife was pregnant with the one month old baby. She subsequently gave birth to a son to Bara’atu’s chagrin.
Consequently, at about 10pm on Thursday night, Bara’atu sneaked into her co-wife room and picked the one month old child and thereafter cut off his penis and testicles. She was, however, caught by the elder brother of their husband who called the police and got her arrested.
Niger State Police Command spokesman Bala Elkana, said that the child was receiving treatment at a hospital in Minna. He also confirmed the arrest of Bara’atu for attempted culpable homicide.
