At this time, our Muslim brothers and friends are observing a period of Ramadan, which began yesterday; a lengthy period of fasting lasting thirty days. Thus, one can be right to say that Ramadan is grounded on fasting! Based on this, one would then want to ask what the benefits of fasting are, which literally is the denial of the body of food and drink for a certain period of time.
To enable a clear picture and better understanding, let us go a little into the composition of earth-man. Man on earth is composed of spirit, soul and body or earth-physical body, which is the outermost cloak or covering of the spirit. The earth body can rightly be said to be the covering of the soul while the soul is the covering of the spirit. Thus stands earth-man, complete: i.e. spirit, soul and body.
From the above, it can also be rightly said that the spirit is the innermost core, i.e. the animating essence, being the actual man, while the earth body is the outermost covering of the spirit. Properly understood, therefore, the overall purpose of the physical life on earth is for the ultimate benefit of the spirit.
During fasting, when the earth body is denied of food and drink, its normally co-operating radiation
Is reduced, while that coming from the spirit through the soul remains. In the process, a mutual radiation imbalance is created with the result that the inner or inward aggregate radiation coming from the spirit or the soul is somewhat greater.
Any communication offered at such times by the individual person is capable of rising above the common place of our earthly trivialities to the regions of Light where alone prayers and petitions are received and treated based on their merits.
In reality, prayers alone constitute thanksgiving and adoration which as gratitude rises to the Throne of the Highest. Petitions or requests on the other hand as the name goes are not prayers but constitutes kind of demands made by the individual persons. However, a common denominator for both prayer and petition is that both require the inner vibration of the spirit’s communication ‘transceiver’ (this is my own word please), called the intuitions or the intuitive faculty. This alone enables prayer or petition to rise to higher spheres or regions where they are received and given utmost attention by the numerous servants of the Almighty Creator.
Rightly understood therefore, to be able to achieve the above, the intuitions or intuitive faculty must be sharp, strong and pure, otherwise such prayer or petition, lacking in the vibrations of the spirit, hovers within the common place of the earth and its immediate environment, carried only by the thoughts power of the intellect. This lacks both the energy and the refinement to cross into the higher spheres, and so diminishes sooner or later like the rainbow.
Thus, fasting, prayer or petition are two couple that must not be separated if the fasting must achieve any meaning as seen from the regions of Light high above.
I therefore, wish our Muslim brothers and friends grace and strength as they go through this Ramadan period.
