Chief Ogboru in company of the party’s Delta North Senatorial district chairman, Evang. Ossai Abe during a meeting, weekend at Ekpan, had explained that despite reports in the media that the merger plans had been stalemated, “LP is marching forward with its merger with the APC in a few days time and there are no misgivings about it.”
Disassociating himself and LP from the merger with APC, Chief Ezeagwu when contacted, said: “I called a meeting of the party and disassociated LP from fusing or merging with APC and as I speak with you, they are begging me to rescind that decision and I told them that it is not possible.
“I am the final authority of LP in Delta State. A candidate cannot direct the affairs of the party. If he (Ogboru) had won and is the governor is a different ball game entirely but for now, he doesn’t have that kind of capacity.”
Speaking further, he said: “There is neither crack nor faction in LP. What we have resolved is that, anyone who feels like going to APC is free to do so but the fact is that Labour Party remains Labour Party and we are not fusing with any political party.”
Reacting to claims by the party chairman, Chief Ogboru said: “There is an understanding within the LP, which states that when am leaving the party with my supporters, we would hand over the party to the original chairman of the party.
“If he (Ezeagwu) wants to go, he can go. What is our business with Ezeagwu who cannot win one unit in the State? If he is coming, fine, but if he is not, he can go on his own but he is going with nothing and the rightful chairman of the party would take over the party.”
