Wonders they say, will never end as incest was avoided when two siblings, unknown to them, would have had sexual relations oblivious of their relationship.
Resident Pastor of Pillar of Fire Salvation and Miracle Ministry at Akabo in Ikeduru local government area of Imo State, Pastor Eugene Azumawuru while narrating his encounter with The Authority on Sunday said providence saved him and his stepsister from avoidable curses.
According to him, his mother, Adanna left his father, Ibeakanwa Azumawuru, who died as an Assistant Commissioner of Police in the Nigerian Police Force, upon discovery that he was married to another lady with 11 children.
The late Ibeakanwa Azumawuru had been married to Mrs Amarachi and they were based in Okigwe local government of Imo State but was suddenly transferred to Lagos, where he met Adanna.
Late Azumawuru who already had 7 boys and 4 girls, making a total of 11, claimed he was single and went ahead to present drinks to Adanna’s parents in Nsukka, Enugu State.
Shortly after, Adanna conceived and bore CY, who is today a Roman Catholic Priest and Pastor Eugene Favour Azumawuru. After about three years into their marriage, Adanna started yearning to know her husband’s place of origin in Imo State. Through her continuous persistence, the late Azumawuru agreed to take his Lagos wife home.
Upon arrival at ofekata Orodo in Mbaitoli local government area of Imo State, the Lagos wife, Adanna discovered her husband was already married with 11 children, and even all the children were older than hers. She broke down crying in disbelief unable to fathom the new development of another woman with older children. She simply went inside, took her things and left, and was not seen by Azumawuru again, until his death.
Our Correspondent gathered that as at that time, Azumawuru had already been transferred back to Imo State and used the visit as a disguise to relocate back to Imo state. Despite the new development, Azumawuru never went back to Lagos or Nsukka in search of Adanna as everyone just continued their lives in different locations.
Narrating the story, Pastor Eugene Azumawuru, Adanna’s second son said the older wife, Amarachi accepted him and his elder brother, Revd Fr. CY, and began raising them like her kids, saying for 23 years, both of them were oblivious of the fact that they were not her biological children.
However, one day, while trying to manage the little food available among the children after the demise of their father, Amarachi complained that Eugene and CY should allow her own biological children eat to their full. That singular act triggered curiosity in the two boys and this prompted them to start asking questions but no one was ready to proffer any answers.
Having become a born again Christian, Eugene decided that he would never sleep with any girl except his wife, a decision, he said, saved him from committing incest.
Born in 1980, Eugene had turned 20 years in the year 2000, and was beginning to experience hormonal surge and made a decision to settle down rather than engage in promiscuity, and so on a fateful day that same year, he saw a pretty girl, Adaeze on Douglas road in Owerri and made advances at her. He then decided to follow her home to her parents living at Lagos street, an action that has since answered the question of their maternal identity.
The IMT Enugu graduate of Mechanic Engineering said Adaeze’s mother was pleasantly amused to see a 20 year old young man seeking her daughter’s hand in marriage and started asking him about his background and origin, only to discover Eugene was her long abandoned son.
Eugene said the woman, Adanna started sreaming and crying which attracted the neighbors, she told the surging crowd that Eugene was her second son whom she abandoned out of annoyance, though she remarried and now has three daughters for her husband.
The whole family has since reunited after which Revd Fr CY threw a party to celebrate the reunion.
Pastor Eugene has since married and has three children, and is sponsoring his then intended wife, who turned out to be his stepsister, Adaeze to read Law.
