The Delta Police Command revealed Saturday that its officers have rescued eight pregnant girls from a “Baby Production” factory in Asaba.
Spokesperson DSP Celestina Kalu said detectives, acting on a tip-off, made the shocking discovery when they stormed the baby-making factory and arrested the kingpin, named as John Ihezun.
Eight pregnant girls (names withheld) were rescued in the raid, which took place on Thursday in the state capital. Two male accomplices were also arrested at the premises, located opposite the Federal Radio Corporation in Asaba. The names of the arrested persons were given as Prince Chukwu and Obum Nwankwo. They are believed to be helping Police with their enquiries.
The menace of so-called Baby Factories has become a matter of public concern in recent months, after being uncovered in several police operations.
The Delta Police Command says it has commenced investigations into the latest incident, even as it vows to prosecute those involved.
