About 60 people were feared dead in Gombe city, northeast Nigeria, on Wednesday after a series of bomb blasts ripped through two bus stations, a rescue worker and a witness told AFP.
“So far we have recovered 12 dead bodies,” said the rescue worker at Dadin Kowa terminus, while a witness at the second in the Dukku area said: “I counted up to 30 dead bodies at the scene.”
The Gombe state police confirmed only the first blast but did not give a death toll
This is coming a week after twin blasts killed 50 people at the city’s central market.
A high casualty figure was expected in Wednesday’s attack.
The first two explosions occurred at a busy motor park.
The blasts, suspected to be from Improvised Explosive Devices worn by suicide bombers, occurred at about 7p.m.
Our reporter said the explosions took place minutes apart inside Dadin Kowa motor park.
The third blast occurred nearly two hours after the first attacks, as residents searched through hospitals for their loved ones who may have been affected by the motor parks attacks.
Last week, explosions by suspected Boko Haram suicide bombers killed 50 people inside the town’s main market last week.
