The Nigerian Army has said that it would not relent in its efforts to put an end to terrorism and restore peace in the country.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Kenneth Minimah, who made this known in Benin during his first official visit to Edo State, stated that the security challenges facing the nation were “surmountable” and would become “things of the past.”
He therefore reassured Nigerians that the army would continue in its efforts to ensure that all forms of criminality were eradicated from the country.
“The current terrorist and other security challenges bedeviling our nation today are sumountable and indeed will soon be a thing of the past.
“The Nigerian Army will not relent or rest until terrorism and other forms of criminality are eradicated from our shores.
“We cannot, we must not and we will not fail the nation and Nigerians,” Minimah said.
Speaking at the visit, Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, while commending the Federal Government for making the army available to fight crime in the state, stressed the need for confidence and determination in the fight against terrorism.
He also expressed optimism that the nation would emerge victorious in the end.
Oshiomhole said, “I believe that the Commander-in-Chief and our President, Ebele Jonathan is providing that leadership and that the Nigerian Army, under your command, is doing an excellent job in making a bold statement that this terrorists will be defeated.
“There is no question on whether they will be defeated.
“They will be defeated and by the grace God, Nigeria will be secure for generations yet unborn.”
