A former Governor of Cross River State, Mr. Donald Duke, has lambasted the incumbent, Liyel Imoke, for allegedly dividing the Peoples Democratic Party in the state.
He spoke in Calabar at a rally held in honour of one of the party’s governorship aspirants, Mr. Goddy Jedy-Agba, who arrived in the state capital amid jubilation from supporters, on Thursday.
From the Margaret Ekpo Airport in Calabar, where he was received, to the Holy Child Secondary School, where a grand reception was held for him, hundreds of supporters trooped out to show their support for Jedy-Agba.
At the reception ground Duke said he was solidly behind Jedy-Agba.
Duke said there was nothing as a united family in state despite the impression Imoke was trying to create.
“He gave his nod to everyone that came to meet him for their governorship aspiration, but he refused that of Jedy-Agba, why?” Duke queried.
Making a jest of Imoke’s campaign slogan which is ‘Monkey work, monkey chop,’ Duke said the only two monkeys in the state where two companies.
He said everyone would have a say in who becomes the next governor and not just one person.
According to him the governor was giving the impression that aspirant would be provided with a level-playing field while he (Imoke) has someone in mind.
Jedy-Agba said everyone should be ready to work in Cross River. “I have come to serve,” he said.
Director-General of Jedy-Agba campaign organisation, Dr. Sandy Onor, said, “We are here to welcome our own Goddy Agba back to Cross River. He has served this country so well. He has won several awards. He is the man for Cross River.
“We have been appealing to him to come and help us and we are happy he is ready to go. He is a machine that cannot be stopped.
“While others are waiting for anointing by man, he was looking at the mountain from where cometh his help. He organised his campaign team.”
