COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF A ONE DAY CRUCIAL MEETING OF SOUTH-SOUTH MUSLIM STAKEHOLDERS HELD AT ASABA, DELTA STATE ON THE 24TH JUNE 2023.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the six states of the South -south geo-political zone of Akwa ibom , Bayelsa, Cross Rivers, Delta, Edo, and Rivers states Observers from other staes were also in attendance.
The meeting being first of it’s kind, was the way forward for Islam in the south -south region.
The Muslims decreed the neglect of the Muslim Ummah by the apex body, the Nigerian Supreme Court for Islamic Affairs headed by His Eminence, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, lll, the Sultan of Sokoto.
The meeting viewed with dismay the preferential treatment being accorded to other Muslim brothers in the Northern and Western part of the country.
The Muslim stakeholders noted that they are being treated as second class Muslims in the Nigerian Muslim community.
That the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs headed by His Eminence Sa-ad Abubakar the Sultan of Sokoto, the leader of the Muslim community in Nigeria turns a blind eyes to the plight of Muslims and Islam in the south -south.
In that regard, we the Muslims in the south -south hereinafter refers to as the south -south Muslim stakeholders calls on His Eminence to give prompt attention to the plight of Muslims in the South Southe and Nigeria in general in other that the Muslims in the area be fully integrated into the body of Muslim Ummah in the country. That we deserve to be accorded our right and privileges as fundarmentaly guaranteed to practice our religious faith.
