Death is inevitable. When it comes it should be a time for sober reflection on the purpose of life, not a time to promote animosity and hate, but a time to look forward with hope for a better future.
There have been numerous and varied interpretation and misinterpretation of the decision of some Uvwie stakeholders who allegedly blacklisted the late Daniel Ighedo and his fellow travelers. A father, family can discipline their children out of love, but that do not mean they wish the child’s death. They only desire a change to a better moral and ethical human being.
This is an appeal to all interested party to allow the deceased family and friends the needed privacy and solemnity to bury their beloved son and friend in peace and the dignity so required.
He was never banished from the community. After all he is the local government vice chairman and has a lot of friends who will desire to pay their last respects to him. The traditional system blacklisted him and others and that will remain in place until they purge themselves of their disrespect and insubordination to traditional institutions and elders of the community. Writing petitions loaded with blatant false allegations against your neighbor who is supposed to be an elder in the community is serious offense against the Divine laws and there are consequences. Unfortunately many of us have failed to learn from the past. It is just a matter of time.
Persons trying to politicise the issue should desist from doing so, as they are many PDP members who felt insulted by the disrespect of some persons to traditional institutions and elders in the community arising from unhealthy struggle for power. Their argument is that we all will grow old some day and the time will come when those who make it the habit of disrespecting their fathers/elders, will have same falling to their lot and perpetuated by their own children because they were bad role models to the younger generation. What goes around comes around.
People die everyday and doctors are warning of the sudden death syndrome which is currently on the rise. Doctors are advising people to do regular check ups and if you have any existing health conditions to desist from harmful drugs, over indulgence in alcohol and avoid stressful lifestyle that could jeopardize health. For those of us who are Christians, we must always remember what our Lord Jesus Christ once said “Death comes like a thief in the night”. But that will be a write-up for another day.
It will be recalled that some Uvwie Traditional stakeholders on Wednesday (1/9/21) blacklisted the late Uvwie Local Government(LG) Vice Chairman, Mr. Daniel Ighedo and four others for allegedly exposing the office of HRM Emmanuel E. Sideso, Abe 1, JP OON, the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom and the traditional institutions to public ridicule.
Others sanctioned were the former LG. Vice Chairman, Newyear Iffie, Moses Terry Ariuruje, Gabriel Ariuruje and Onajite Awinoron. The Uvwie people and friends of the Uvwie Kingdom were also told to desist from associating with the culprits otherwise the wrath of the gods.
The sanction will remain until the affected persons purged themselves traditionally of the allegations against them.
The meeting was presided over by the Unuevworo of Alegbor, Chief Hope Akasa, the President General of Uvwie General Improvement Union(UGIU), Chief Hope Erute and attended by stakeholders from the traditional council, Youths and quarter leaders as well as women leaders and Chief Priests from various deities in Uvwie Kingdom.
Before the decision was taken, each group was told to speak on the crisis breeding in the Kingdom whereby, the culprits opposed the decision of the Uvwie Traditional Council which was earlier supported by the Delta state government, that in order to sustain the peace, particularly in Ekpan, the tenure-ship position of Community Liasion Officers(CLOs) and Ekpan Development Committee(EDC) should not be more than three years to promote harmony in the community.
The accused persons opposed the decision while some of them, lobbied their friends in government to overturn the government’s earlier decision on tenure-ship to favour them in complete contempt for the government’s report, headed by Chief Edwin Uzor (JP), a Special Adviser, TO THE GOVERNOR ON PEACE BUILDING AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION, which declared that “the current community liaison officers (C.L.O) and community relations committee(CRC) members have served long enough and are given up till 30th September 2020 to wind up their activities and accordingly, vacate office on the same date, 30th September 2020. Within this period, the community should appoint replacement for them through the Unuevworo of the various quarter in consonance with the EDC chairman.”
The culprits were also alleged to have made damaging and unfounded accusations against the traditional institution resulting to the Delta state police commissioner inviting our reverend Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom and the attendant court case which they elect to be joined as parties
The Ovie has consistently advised the people to be patient as everyone will benefit from the kingdom if they are patient and orderly. He also pray on every occasion for the well-being of all his children and for peace and prosperity for the kingdom
