Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has denied endorsing any aspirant for the 2023 governorship race despite the fact that most of his aides were currently openly campaigning for the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori
The governor who spoke today(5/5/2022) at the 2022 quarterly media interaction in Government House Asaba stated “”if anybody tells you l have endorsed him as a sole candidate, he is not saying the truth, l have not endorsed anybody. So, don’t mind those who are saying I have endorsed one person or the other as a sole candidate in the forthcoming PDP primary election.”
He said however said he was of belief that whoever would take over from him as the Governor of the state would be a person that could not only initiate new projects to move the state to the next level but the person who could consolidate on the projects which he had done in the state.
Dr. Okowa said further: ” all l pray and know is that the person to take over from me is the one who can consolidate on the projects which l have done in the state’
According to him, there are many projects, including roads which have been completed and many more are on going across the state especially in Asaba as well as Warri and appealed to Deltans to protect government’s property adding that whatever projects done in the state belongs to all not ‘Okawa’ projects.
He said:’ it is wrong for people to destroy government’s property, l think it is good for everyone to protect government’s property because they belong to all.
Responding to criticism that his government has not done enough for the benefit of Deltans, he explained that a lot of developmental projects are ongoing while many have been completed.
While thanking Deltans for their support so far, Governor Okowa said all developmental projects which have taken place in state was not solely his but through the support of all the people. He therefore thanked the traditional rulers, and entire Deltans for their support which made him a success.
Ahead 2023 gubernatorial election, the Delta State Governor, Senator( Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa said he was not prepared to feature as a presidential candidate in the forth coming election though he was qualified. He said many people were in the race but he was not ready to rob shoulders with anybody.
He said:’ l am very qualified to run for the office of the President but l am not prepared for this task yet except for some other time”.
