The Conference for the Actualization of Human Right has rejected the proposed Delta State Internal Revenue Service and its board bill saying Deltans need palliatives not taxation
In a statement the Rights Group Director General, Barr. Omes Ogedegbe said while Deltans were locked down by the state government for a period of not less than 28 days, which crumbled many businesses, regretting that rather than provide palliatives like other states the governor has sponsored an executive bill to the Assembly for the establishment of the Delta state Revenue board to tax Deltans.
According to him, the bill got to the Assembly on 6th May and passed through 1st and 2nd reading same day to be passed into law on 12th May 2020 without the mandatory public hearing. The social distancing no doubt is the excuse but the question is what is the urgency? A law targeted at the people must have their involvement by way of a public hearing. “”

Infuriatingly, the law empowers the executioner’s to invade our homes and properties for assessment without your consent. Let’s say no to this law. We said no to the NCDC infections disease amendment bill for failing to call for public hearing. We can do it again.””
The Delta State Internal Revenue Service and its board bill scaled through the second reading on the floor of the State House of Assembly at plenary on Wednesday last week.
The Majority Leader, Hon Tim Owhefere, Isoko North, who led the debate on the merits, claimed that the Executive bill was aimed at perfecting the revenue generating laws in Delta State in line with what obtains globally.
