The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria(SPDC) is planning to cancel medicare services for workers particularly for pensioners, sources close to the management has revealed
Already some medical services offer to pensioners has been reduced while the company is owing the medical services providers huge debts which is making them to provide inadequate service to the pensioners
The plans by Shell seem to be contrary to a tripartite meeting held last year between the SPDC Pensioners’ Association and the SPDC Clinical Health Manager.
Among the complaints against the Shell Medical Scheme which were yet to be addressed by the company included the continued heavy indebtedness to the service providers for upwards of three months and attempted imposition of new but reduced capitation rate on the providers
Discontinuation of the monthly issuance of branded drugs to pensioners with chronic diseases and payment for prescribed typhoid fever laboratory tests.
Others were the continued misinterpretation of certain elements of the medicare contract by some retainer clinic/hospitals as a indebtedness to majority of the health care providers continue to increase
Shell Nigeria did not fulfil their promise to response to these allegations after waiting for several weeks
