The Committee for Defence of Human Rights(CDHR), Delta state has accused the Nigerian Police of extra judicial killing of one of its members, Christian Njoku accusing him of armed robbery, but the state Chairman, Prince Kehinde Taiga alleged the police has been threatening to deal with CDHR members including himself for defending people illegally molested by the police
Speaking at a press conference in Warri today, Prince Taiga narrated how the police killed late Njoku alone Jakpa Road, Effurun, very close to his residence and secretly deposited his body at the Warri General Hospital Mogue with instructions that no one should know they dumped the body there.
He explained further that investigation by the CHDR revealed that the body was deposited there by one Sergeant Wilson with GSM number 08037896445. Prince Taiga demanded investigation by the police to get to the root of the incident just as he dismissed the claim by the police that the late Christian Njoku was an armed robber
Prince Taiga said the police knew that dead people did not talk that was why they were making all that claims against the late Christian Njoku as they also similarly threatened to deal with him for trying to defend the human rights of member of the public
However, the Ekpan police in report to journalists claimed that while its men were on patrol at Jakpa road, Effurun, they intercepted one Toyota Solara car with four unknown armed men who on sighting the patrol team open fire resulting in a gun battle and in the course of the cross firing, one of the hoodlum sustained bullet injury and later died on heir way to the hospital.
