Delta State governor, Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa has ordered the contractor handling the Udu Harbour market to vacate the construction site to enable a more capable and experienced contractor to take over the project.
He gave the order of revocation today Wednesday 18th October while speaking at a Town Hall Meeting in Udu, Delta State.
The governor was visibly unhappy over the shoddy job. He said his administration will not compromise quality and standard in project executions, adding that sub-standard job is a direct fraud and disservice to the people.
“It’s sad that the contractor handling Udu Harbour Market has sufficiently shown that it lacked the experience and technical expertise to deliver according to contract specification.
“The contract is hereby revoked. The Secretary to Delta State Government (SSG) is hereby directed to perfect repudiation procedures within two weeks to enable government re-award the contract to an experienced contractor because time is of the essence.
“We shall henceforth tighten procedures for scrutinizing local contractors to ensure that this type of incident do not repeat itself, going forward,” Gov Okowa assured.
The Smart Governor appealed to ALADJA and Ogbe-Ijaw communities to end their lingering crisis and embrace peace.
“The two communities share intertwined socioeconomic relationships which is why they must embrace peace to further consolidate on their competencies, socio-cultural and economic integration,” Okowa said.
He also presided over the Orerokpe Town Hall Meeting where he commended the people of OKPE LGA for peaceful coexistence with neighbouring communities and urged them to sustain the temple.
The governor enumerated the enviable achievements of his administration and promise to do more across the three Senatorial districts.
Meanwhile the Town Hall meetings, inspection and commissioning of projects by the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, in Ndokwa West and Patani Local Government Areas earlier scheduled to hold on October 24 and October 25 will now take place on Friday, October 20 and Saturday, October 21, 2017.
A statement signed by the state Commissioner for Information and Chairman for the organising committee of the event, Mr. Patrick Ukah, disclosed that the Governor and his entourage will pay courtesy visits to the palaces of the Oduosa of Utagba-Ogbe Kingdom and the Pere of Tabowei Kingdom, inspect ongoing projects as well as commission completed ones on the first day of the visit.
On the second day, the Governor will hold Town Hall meetings with persons drawn from different groups in the areas.
During the meetings, he will give his score card and allow people to react and ask questions.
The statement regrets any inconveniences the shift in date would have caused.
