Although Governor Okowa is not the first neither will he be the last amongst the governors in Nigeria that will continue to embark on the charade and scam call Governor’s TOWN HALL MEETING. It is pertinent to note here that the essence of town hall meetings as obtainable in developed countries is aimed at reaching out and giving feedback to the electorates or citizens at large on programmes, directions, workings of government’s policies and the entertainment of genuine questions from all the people on sundry issues bordering on governance. In our society, the Nigerian politician’s concept of TOWN HALL MEETINGS is to package the teeming populace in a bid to cajole them to score political points and electioneering gains.
I wept within when Governor Ifeanyi Okowa or more satisfactory as most of his retinue of lackeys would prefer Sen. Dr Ifeanyi Okowa (Ekweme), went round some Local Government areas in Delta State recently for what they call TOWN HALL MEETING. It was simply nothing but a “censored Jamboree”, and they should stop insulting our collective intelligence.
The pseudo town hall meetings underestimate the intelligence of Deltans. Defenders of Governor Okowa’s administration fail to realise that most of us don’t believe their antics. How can you say you are running a TOWN HALL MEETING when those selected to participate in the meetings are party faithful of the Governor’s political party and also appointees of the government. This one na anoda Okowa arrangement.
The Okowa smart agenda is a mere propaganda and if actually, he wants to know the truth about the performance of his administration. He knows the proper channels to go about it. His credibility ranking is the lowest in Nigeria. The fact is that we Deltans are suffering and life is even harder now. Deng Xiaoping, the man responsible for the economic transformation of China once said: “it doesn’t matter whether a cat is black or white, as long as it catches mice.”
Yesterday, Monday the 22nd of May, 2017 at 9:00 PM. I watched with dismay on AFRICAN INDEPENDENT TELEVISION (AIT) the rhetorical lies being sponsored by the Okowa’s administration to deceive the world of his achievement on education. When will this publicity gimmick end? Why not channel all these efforts and resources you are wasting on deceitful ventures that will not stand the test of time and face real issues of sincere governance. WE ARE WATCHING, THE PEOPLE CAN NOT AND WILL NOT CONTINUOUSLY BE COWED FOREVER. Our Mumu Don Do!
