The Cross River State Independent Electoral Commission (CROSIEC) has announced the time table for local government elections in the state.
Addressing newsmen in Calabar the Chairman of the commission, Dr. Mike Ushie, said the elections will be conducted on June 17th 2017..
“
In pursuant to Section 20(1) and (2) of the law establishing the commission ” notice is hereby given that the 2017 local government council elections shall hold throughout the time table”.
Therefore, he said, “facilitate early and easy clearance of candidates for the elections, all political parties shall in line with the time table collect, fill and return CROSEIEC Form LGE 001 and LGE 002 alongside personal Data Form in respect of chairmanship, vice chairmanship and councillorship candidates for completion”.
He said only cleared candidates of party shall proceed to obtain nomination Fos LGE 006A and 0068 respectively on payment of stipulated fees.
Ushie said “conducting credible election is the priority of the commission and urged all the political parties as well as Cross Riverians to cooperate with it to actualise this task ahead.
He said henceforth the commission will be meeting with the Chairmen and secretaries of all registered political parties to iron out any grey areas of doubt.
It would be recalled that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dragged the state governor to court for not fixing a date for local government elections.
The matter is still in court as at the time of filling this report.
