Monarch of Agbere Kingdom in Bayelsa state, His Highness, Sir Emmanuel Kimia has said that the recent visit of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to Niger Delta, particularly to Gbaramatu Kingdom was a good omen for the Niger Delta
Sir Kimia who spoke to newsmen in Effurun said the statement by Prof. Osinbajo that the Niger Delta was criminally neglected was a clear indication that federal government must have to do something for the Niger Delta
He appealed to the federal government to fast track the development of the Niger Delta and that they must not wait for youth restiveness before embarking on what was needed to be done
According to him, the federal government should revisit the issues raised in the Kaiama declaration and commended leaders of the Niger Delta led by Chief Edwin Clark for their efforts to ensure that peace return to the region
The Monarch throw his weight behind those calling for oil companies to relocate their head offices to their main area of operation saying that their home countries refineries and head offices were built close to source of crude oil.
He called for a review of the revenue allocation formula and a return to what was in place after independence before the military government unilaterally change revenue allocation base on derivation when it favours the Niger Delta region
