Individuals intending to apply for United States’ visas or passports will, effective next month, be required to submit only passport photos in which they do not wear glasses.
The US Department of State said in a statement on Friday that “beginning November 1, 2016, applicants for US passports and visas must remove their glasses for their application photos”.
“This change will help eliminate glares and shadows that can lead to delays in processing visa and passport applications. Applicants may wear glasses only in rare circumstances of documented medical necessity during urgent travel,” the statement issued by the Office of the Spokesperson, reads in part.
In 2015, more than 200, 000 photos submitted by applicants for travel to the US were either of “poor quality or non-compliant” and delayed processing of applications, according to the Department of State.
