Fenerbahce cut ties with Yobo

Fenerbahce have announced that they have parted ways with former Nigeria international Joseph Yobo exceeding their quota of Foreign players.

The Turkish Super Lig side confirmed the news on their official website after both parties mutually agreed to go their separate ways on Friday.

The 33-year-old was honoured briefly before Sunday’s opening match of the season against Karabukspor, to thank him for his service.

“Since the 2010-2011 season, Nigerian player Joseph Yobo successfully served Fenerbahce and the Football Federation of Turkey has brought about the restriction of foreign players as mandatory as of today so our paths (with Yobo is) separated,” said the statement.

“Fenerbahce Sports Club Board of Directors on Sunday, 31 August, 2014 before a match will reward Joseph Yobo with a plaque of appreciation.

“Fenerbahce Sports Club, thank you for the contribution you have made, we wish you success in (your) future football career.”

The former Super Eagles captain, had two loan spell at the Turkish club before joining permanently in 2012 from Everton. He spent the last half of last season at Norwich City.
