The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed the Edo state governorship election by two weeks
The decision was reached hours after the electoral body announced that it would go ahead with the election.
Meanwhile, just before the Edo governorship election was postponed, the Cross River Police Command was alleged to have tasked the 550 officers and men selected to monitor the election 5500 Naira.

A circular entitled “Police Wireless Message” was signed by DCCID (Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of criminal investigation Department).
It was also addressed to all sectional heads of CIID Calabar with reference No. DTO: 061432/09/2016.
The circular, read “in view of the election scheduled for 10/09/2016, you are directed to pay the sum of N5,500 each for transportation. Payment to reach me on or before Wednesday 07/09/2016. Treat as very important please”.
Reacting to the purported circular the Commissioner of Police, Jimoh Ozi-Obeh described it as false and baseless noting “it is complete falsehood and unfounded”.
He declared ” where did you get such information. Go out there and interview my officers and men selected to go to Edo if there is any levy imposed on them”.
“There are 550 of them going. We have arranged already 10 Pickup vans and two lorries for the journey”, he added.
The Assistant Commissioner operations, Sani Salihu, is in charge of the movement. He can confirm what arrangement we are making, he said.
