We hear those words at most weddings. Somehow it seems like a curse to me. But what do I know.
Let’s dive into my musings:
A pastor’s wife once regaled me with tales of how her hussy often turns her into a punching bag. Myself and two buddies, once went to beg a friend’s wife. He had beaten the wife. The boxer is also a pastor. But, this is not about pastors, or the express lane to getting your own private jet.
We just moved house. While we were sleeping at night, we (my ex-wife and I) started hearing loud, disturbing and gross noises. We were confused and afraid. The last time we heard something similar, it was the soundtrack to the presence of armed robbers, next door.
Clarity came in the morning.
It turned out, that the couple, living above us, were having something. No. Not some steamy, noisy sex. The man was beating his wife!
What most people call marriage, is one of the most hellish arrangements. The denizens of marital land, luxuriate in ”quiet desperation”. Most marriages are schemes built on deception and materialism, and the most superficial bases. I know there are lofty examples, but, man, they are so rare — like seeking shadows in the dead of night!
The horrors and the nightmares that people go through — because they think the Almighty ordained their union! Or because of ”love”, or society’s expectations.
Marriages, are a paradise for masochists. Some stay because of comfort and children. Some cannot handle the stigma that society will unleash on them — if they break- away from their chains. Some have lost their individuality, and are completely attached to and dependent on their partners!
It’s now common that some of these married people, find helpers outside their union, to take care of their emotional and sexual needs. They prefer the myth that they are ”responsible” and adjusted members of society, but then, you and I know the truth, right?
I feel sorry for the womenfolk, in particular (the men, are hardly ever faithful and committed, and they have coping mechanisms — I am afraid, I cannot elaborate), most women have bought the delusion, that they are nothing, if they do not have that highly coveted degree: MRS.
