Tension in 4 Rivers communities over shootings

PORT HARCOURT—HUNDREDS of residents of four communities in Etche Local Government Area, Rivers State, have fled their homes, following shootings in the early hours of yesterday, which reportedly started Monday night.

The communities involved are Egwie, Okomoko, Ulakwo 1 and Ulawkwo 2.
Vanguard gathered that the gunmen allegedly sponsored by an opposition politician moved from one community to the other, shooting.
Caretaker Committee Chairman of the council, Mr. Charles Anyanwu appealed to youths of the area to shun violence, adding that they should ignore offers from politicians to carry arms.

It was learnt that a military man and an Air Force officer sustained injuries during the incident.
