The Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, HRM Emmanuel Ekemejewa Sideso, Abe 1, JP. OON has appealed to the federal government to release a portion of community land acquired for Army Barracks but now being sold to private developers as well as address the neglect of Delta ports, roads and Osubi airport among others.
The Uvwie Monarch made these demands in Effurun, Delta State on Saturday during a welcome-home reception held in honour of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Olorogun Festus Egwarewa Keyamo
Abe 1 who clearly unhappy with some federal government agencies said: “In a bizzare twist, the army authorities through their cohort have further taken possession of our lands beyond the size of what the federal government originally acquired for the army. We dare say, the Nigerian Army cannot be an occupying force against our people.
He also urged the federal government to stop the indiscriminate dredging in urbanised areas which now poses serious threat and danger to communities
Other demands made by the Uvwie monarch included, the revitalisation and upgrade of Osubi airport, the revamping of the Delta sea ports to accommodate bigger vessels, so as to decongest the Lagos ports, facilitate commerce and industry, create jobs and bring back the old glory of Warri province
The Uvwie Monarch also lamented the poor funding of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, the poor condition of Warri-Effurun-Sapele-Benin Road as well as the Orerokpe-Eku-Abraka-Agbor roads which have become an embarrassment to the people particularly during the raining season.
He also demanded that the Uvwie Local Government should have a police area command in view of challenges of crime prevention, detection and prosecution in a congested metropolis.
Responding the Olorogun Festus Keyamo thanked the Uvwie Monarch for the reception and promised to take the monarch’s request directly to President Bola Tinubu lamenting, “we have suffered for too long. Papa you have done so well since you assumed the throne by transforming all aspect of life of the people, particularly in education and sustaining the peace.”
The occasion was attended by large number of PDP and APC Chieftains, federal and state government officials, captains of industry, traditional rulers and other community leaders from across the country
