The Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, HRM Emmanuel Ekemejewa Sideso, Abe 1, JP. OON has warned criminal youths engaged in extorting money from developers that, “that era has gone forever” and that anyone involved in this nefarious act was an enemy of progress in the Uvwie Kingdom.
The Uvwie Monarch spoke in his palace on Thursday when the Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency(WUEDA) Director General, Prince Godwin Eyinyere paid a courtesy call to formally inform him that the State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was poised to use the Agency to restore the area to its lost glory, in line with the More Agenda of his administration.
Abe 1 assured the state government that the Uvwie people would support fully all developmental projects in the community adding that his Palace would set up a project monitoring committee in support of the Agency’s desire for quality jobs. “What we want is peace and development of the area. I am here to support you but you have to support us as we are working towards the same goal. We are not going to disappoint you, as a son of the soil,”
The Ovie of Uvwie said he would continue to pray for a sustained peace in Uvwie as well as for the government of Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori administration
Earlier, Prince Ejinyere said he was in the Uvwie Monarch’s place for the royal father’s blessings to enable him succeed in his assignment, beginning with Uvwie.
He noted that Effurun, the gateway to the Oil City, had no spectacular thing to show at the entrance promising that the Agency was out to develop and beautify it to global standard.
Prince Ejinyere said WUEDA would partner with traditional rulers and chiefs, Christian and Muslem clerics, community and opinion leaders to help sensitize the public on what the Agency stands for and the benefits to the people.
“Uvwie must be clean again and indiscriminate refuse dumping, and parking of vehicles must stop. Night life will return to Warri, Uvwie and environs only when peace and security are restored, and investors will be attracted to the City which used to be known as Small Lagos,” he emphasized.
He lamented that contractors used to execute Government projects shoddily but assured that under his watch, the era of cutting corners were over, as Governor Oborevwori has zero tolerance for substandard jobs. “If you see something, say something, so that contracts can be executed according to specifications and global best practices for the overall benefit of the people, he advised.
He gave kudos to the Governor for selecting Julius Berger as the firm to handle the flyover projects in the Oil City in the next 27 months, and appealed to the people not to disturb the construction company so that it can complete the job without delay.
“After the visits, we shall call a stakeholders meeting to tell the people what we are here to do, to avoid being misunderstood. We are already running jingles on Radio and TV to sensitize the public on the vision and mission of the Agency. A mobile Task Force will be put in place to work with the Agency towards ensuring compliance,” Hon. Ejinyere noted.
