BAYELSA State Governor, Seriake
\nDickson, has advised the Federal
\nGovernment and militants in the
\nNiger Delta to perish the thought
\nthat violence can be used to solve
\nthe recurrent issue of resource con\u00ad
\ntrol in the region.
\nNiger Delta Avengers (NDA) had
\ndeclared war on the federal
\ngovernment by destroyed national
\nassets and making government
\nincur huge financial losses running
\nto billions of naira while the
\ngovernment had considered a
\nmilitary option to checkmate them.
\nBut, governor Dickson condemned
\nthe development and urged the two
\nparties to come to a roundtable and
\ndialogue for peace and stability.
\nThe governor gave the advice at the
\nweekend during the Ekiti State
\nUniversity\u2019s (EKSU) 21st
\nconvocation in Ado-Ekiti where he
\nwas garlanded with the institution\u2019s
\ndoctorate degree in Public
\nAdministration in recognition of his
\nexemplary leadership.<\/p>\n

Dickson received the honour
\nalongside the Chancellor of the
\nuniversity and monarch of Aramoko-
\nEkiti, Oba Abdul Azeez Olu Adegoke
\nAdeyemi, and Ekiti State-born legal
\nluminary, banker and oil and gas
\nmagnate, Mr. Gbenga Oyebode,
\nwhile 18,685 candidates received
\nthe institution\u2019s degrees, diplomas
\nand post-graduate diplomas.
\nDickson said: \u201cWe are all concerned
\nabout the developments, all the
\nleaders are concerned about the
\nrecent tough surge of insurgency.
\nWe are collaborating on the way
\nforward. Those of us who are
\ngovernors are working hard with
\ntraditional and opinion leaders as
\nwell as security agencies. We are
\nalso collaborating with other private
\nand corporate bodies to ensure that
\nwe put it under control.
\n\u201cThe way forward is not war-war; it
\nis jaw-jaw. The way forward is
\npeace and dialogue, it is consensus
\nbuilding and that is quite what some
\nof us are in support of, we are not in
\nsupport of violence, we are not in
\nsupport of brigandage, we are not in
\nsupport of destruction of strategic
\nnational assets and killings.\u201d
\nExpressing his appreciation to the
\nuniversity and Ekiti on the honour,
\nhe said: \u201cIt is a great privilege to
\nhave been invited here and
\ndecorated with this beautiful
\nacademic robes. So, on behalf of our
\npeople of Bayelsa, I bring warm
\nfelicitations to the people of Ekiti
\nand my brother governor, Ayo
\nFayose who is a visitor to this
\nwonderful university and who has
\nbeen doing a great job in the state
\nin spite of all the distractions.
\n\u201cEkiti State University has become a
\nmodel for other institutions.
\n\u201cJust two days ago, I sent a team
\nfrom our state university to come
\nhere and interact with your manage\u00ad
\nment with a view to finding out how
\nyou are managing to pay salaries
\nwithout receiving the subventions
\nfrom your governor.
\nTo the graduands he said: \u201cI want to
\ncongratulate you as you are entering
\ninto another society, a society
\nwhere your aspiration should not be
\nto look for a white-collar jobs
\nbecause they simply are not there.
\n\u201cMy expectation for all of you is to
\nbe wealth creators and employers of
\nlabour.\u201d
\nGovernor Fayose also thanked the
\nschool management for performing
\nadmirably well.
\n\u201cI want to appreciate the Governing
\nCouncil of the university for your
\nefforts and outstanding performance
\nat a time like this when financing
\ngovernment has become a huge
\nchallenge in the face of the
\ndwindling federal allocations.
\n\u201cYour performance for the six
\nmonths has been commendable,\u201d he
