{"id":934,"date":"2014-08-28T09:46:03","date_gmt":"2014-08-28T09:46:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=934"},"modified":"2014-08-28T09:46:03","modified_gmt":"2014-08-28T09:46:03","slug":"task-force-nabs-13-for-drug-peddling","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=934","title":{"rendered":"Task force nabs 13 for drug peddling"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/The-suspects-360x226.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-935\" alt=\"The-suspects-360x226\" src=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/The-suspects-360x226-300x188.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/The-suspects-360x226-300x188.jpg 300w, http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/The-suspects-360x226-128x80.jpg 128w, http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/The-suspects-360x226.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Lagos State Taskforce on Environment al and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit has arrested 13 suspected hard drug peddlers in the Lekki area of Lagos.<\/p>\n<p><em>PUNCH Metro <\/em>learnt that the suspects were nabbed after officials of the task force stormed their hideout on Wole Olateru Street, Lekki Phase 1 on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman of the task force, Bayo Sulaiman, a Chief Superintendent of Police, on Wednesday said the exercise was long overdue.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the residents of the area had written several complaints to the government on activities of the arrested suspects and others at large.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that as soon as the unit got the complaint letters, it took its time in investigating the case before swinging into action on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the task force would continue to raid other black spots and would not stop until drug peddling was wiped out from the state.<\/p>\n<p>Sulaiman said the suspects would be charged to court, adding that the law must take its course.<\/p>\n<p>He said, \u201cWe are going to charge them to court. This is a warning to others that the Lekki area and indeed the entire Lagos State will not welcome drug peddling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDrug peddlers must stay away from this state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHard drugs consumption makes people to get high, which often lead to cases of stabbing, killing and other vices.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said hard drugs recovered at the scene included cannabis and some routine drugs used for treating common cold,\u00fd but which could be mixed together to get high.<\/p>\n<p>Sulaiman added that some charms were also recovered by the taskforce during the raid.<\/p>\n<p>One of the suspects, Buhari Muhammed, told <em>PUNCH Metro<\/em> that he had been in the business for about two years and had made lots of money.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI make thousands of naira every day from this business.
