\n<\/a><\/code>The appetite for the members of NASS to collect billions of our common wealth without accountability is never an ending one, unless we the masses collectively say enough is enough and put an end to it ourselves! During a recent interview with the Hausa service of the Voice of America (VOA), Honourable Faruk Bala Muhammadu, who represents Bida\/Gbako\/Katcha constituency in Niger state revealed that the federal government has just released the sum of N100 million for each House of Representative member, and N200 million for each Senator, for the dreaded fraudulent constituency projects. This money is NOT part of the 2016 budget.<\/p>\n

Now, there are 360 constituencies in Nigeria. This means N100,000,000*360 = N36 billion has quietly been paid to the \u201cHonourables\u201d without any publicity and hence knowledge of the masses. To the best of our knowledge, it is only Mr. Faruk Bala Muhammadu, who is true to his name and honourable enough to admit that he received this money and is appropriating it for rural electrification project in his constituency.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/p>\n

We know that there are 109 Senators in the republic. If each of them is paid N200 million, it means that a total of N200,000,000*109 = N21.8 billion is allocated to the Senators for similar constituency projects. It is only in Nigeria where a humongous amount of tax payers’ money in the tune of N36 billion + N21.8 billion = N57.8 billion can be dispensed without transparency and hence the knowledge of the public. This is one of the reasons why we at CUPS masterminded the historic and immensely successful \u202a<\/span><\/a>#\u200e<\/span>OccupyNASS<\/span>\u202c<\/span><\/a> and \u202a<\/span><\/a>#\u200e<\/span>ReclaimNigeria<\/span>\u202c<\/span><\/a> event. We encourage Nigerians to demand total transparency at NASS!<\/p>\n

Fellow compatriots, do our country a big favour, pick up the phone and call your Senator and Rep to find out what they are planning to do with the N200 million and N100 million they collected respectively from the treasury in your name. You can get their phone numbers here: (http:\/\/www.nass.gov.ng\/constituency\/find). Make appointment to meet them and demand to see plans on how the money is going to be spent and which companies are involved in executing the projects, if any. Collect names and telephone numbers of the companies involved. Call these companies up to get further information. If you detect any form of corruption notify us at CUPS or report it directly to the EFCC. This is democracy is action.<\/p>\n

Unless we as a nation can muster the courage of checking and holding our parliamentarians to account, the fight against corruption and impunity at the NASS will never be won.<\/p>\n
