\"Omo-Agege\"<\/a>Senator Ovie Omo-Agege has appealed to all persons involved in the sudden outbreak of hostilities in Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh communities which led to the burning down of houses as well as sacking and loot of the amoury of the Divisional Police headquarters in Ogbe Ijoh, headquarters of Warri South West Local Government to stop the troubling tension and embrace peace.<\/p>\n

Senator Omo-Agege strongly believes that the historical bonds of brotherhood shared by our people in both Aladja and Ogbe-Ijoh should be protected rather than strained by incessant challenges.<\/p>\n

According to a statement by his aide, Efe Duku, Senator Omo-Agege holds the firm view that violence and bloodshed do not resolve challenges but they rather compound them. He thinks that whatever the issues may be, ultimately they must be handled in civilised manners, particularly given the strong marital and filial ties between both communities.<\/p>\n

In pursuit of his thoughts on this matter, Senator Omo-Agege has requested Sir Richard Odibo, as an emissary of peace, to take proactive leadership steps to assure all identified parties to the disturbing violence to eschew violence. Our Senator tapped Sir Odibo because of his widely respected unique ability to manage complex challenges with fairness and deep wisdom. He trusts Sir Odibo to convince all concerned to embrace peace as one people. To him, Urhobos and Ijaws are not enemies and will never be. Senator Omo-Agege shall be meeting with stakeholders on this issue shortly.<\/p>\n

It will be recalled that yesterday, the Divisional Police headquarters in Ogbe Ijoh, headquarters of Warri South West Local Government was\u00a0 sacked and armoury looted during a renewed communal clash between Ogbe Ijoh and and Aladja communities in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State.<\/p>\n

Soldiers from 3rd Battalion had to be drafted into the crisis torn area before sanity could be returned to the war torn area.<\/p>\n

Our Correspondent learnt that the crisis which was brewing over boundary dispute between the two communities had led to shootings and burning down of houses.<\/p>\n

Security sources disclosed that the police station located in Ogbe Ijoh was over ran and their amoury looted during the crisis.It was gathered that yesterday war began with the alleged attack on Aladja women who were returning from their farms by some Ogbe Ijaw youths last Wednesday.<\/p>\n

This resulted to Aladja youths blocking the only access road leading to Ogbe Ijaw community thereby provoking the clash between the two communities.<\/p>\n

A reinforcement of mobile Police men were drafted from Warri to join the soldiers already deployed to the troubled area.As at the time of filling this report, refugees have been created on both sides of the Ijaw and Urhobo communities.<\/p>\n

Chairman of Udu Local Government Area, Chief Solomon Kpoma told newsmen last night that refugees from Aladja community were being accomodated at Udu townhall while that of Ogbe Ijaw were in Warri.<\/p>\n

The Chairman of Warri South West Local Government Area , Hon. George Ekpemupolo, told our Correspondent\u00a0 on telephone that tension was \u201cvery high\u201d even though the Warri Area Command of the Nigerian Police had waded into the matter.<\/p>\n

Mr Aaron (surname withheld) blamed the crisis on the alleged abduction of an Aladja woman from the farm on Wednesday evening.\u201cThe woman who went to the farm was seized and taken to Ogbe-Ijoh by the youths who detained her behind a counter.\u201d<\/p>\n

So Aladja youths in reprisal blocked the only road leading to Ogbe-Ijoh. They said the road would remain closed until the woman is released. Meanwhile, residents of Ogbe-Ijoh, including NYSC corps members, had fled in the wake of yestefday’s attack.<\/p>\n

The Chairman of the Waterways Security Committee, Chief Boro Opudu, who confirmed the report said security operatives were battling to restore normalcy to the area.<\/p>\n

He said soldiers from Nigerian Army and mobile police force have been deployed to the community to restore law and order.The Warri Area Commander of Police, ACP Muazu Mohammed confirmed the bloody clash, but was in a meeting with the two Council Chairmen as well as their communities leaders.<\/p>\n
