A YEAR ALMOST GONE, MR PRESIDENT SHOULD FOCUS ON SOUTH-SOUTH IF 2019 IS A TARGET FOR APC TO RECOVER THE GEOPOLITICAL ZONE.<\/p>\n

The sound of the South-South political drum beat is tensed and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors in the zone are fighting back like “wounded Lions.”<\/p>\n

There is no magic in politics, you either do the needful or retreat in self pity. Politics is struggle for power and the fight is more fierce when you have been brutalized but managed to survive the elections legal tussle.<\/p>\n

\n<\/a>\"\"<\/code>\"\"<\/a>\"\"<\/p>\n

The way things are in the South-South, if the truth most be told, President Buhari will need to do the following:<\/p>\n

1. Call urgent stakeholders meeting of all 2015 governorship candidates, State party Chairmen and senatorial leaders to map out winning strategies for 2019. The earlier, the better, not quarter to.<\/p>\n

2. Mr President must work closely with the National Assembly to legalize Card Readers as the only electoral instrument for accreditation of voters and voting on election day with a proviso that where Card Readers and Manual Accreditation are in conflict, the result of card readers shall prevail. Amend the Electoral Act for this purpose.<\/p>\n

3. Upgrade the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) database to capture Card Readers data instantly at the Commission’s headquarters during accreditation and voting. State INEC offices should not upload card readers data due to massive electoral malpractice and acute corruption.<\/p>\n

4. President Muhammadu Buhari should release political appointments to reduce the high level of “grumbling and murmuring” within the rank and file of the party so as to boost the enthusiasm of party members and loyalists.<\/p>\n

5. All those arrested so far for electoral malpractices should be prosecuted and jailed to serve as “eye opener” to others. Those guilty of murder should be made to face the full consequence of their crimes.<\/p>\n

6. And any other further executive actions or action as Mr President and the National Assembly may deem fit to take under the prevailing circumstances.<\/p>\n

The above recommendations are ripe because time is of the essence. One year is almost spent in the president dispensation and elected office holders have two years more to impress those who voted them into power.<\/p>\n

The fourth year is political year for planning, regular meetings, political permutations and the rest. The fourth year is not to impress the electorate but a year for consolidating on the success achieved in the past three years in office.<\/p>\n

PDP governors in South-South are radical and rugged political tacticians. It is my candid advise to Mr President and the APC leadership not to take them for granted. The governors have huge financial resources at their disposal. They control the oil producing communities even though Petroleum Resources is in the exclusive list.<\/p>\n

APC South-South must start working “thrice harder” than the incumbent governors of the South-South in terms of grassroots mobilization and trading tackles if we must have good story to tell in 2019.<\/p>\n

APC National Party Chairman and party leaders should take note. Time to take decisive action is NOW!<\/p>\n
