\"okowa\"<\/a>As a developmental organization, Delta Elite Movement (DEM) strongly condemns the increasing rate of kidnappings and general insecurity bedeviling our dear State. Security of lives and properties is a vital influencer of development in every society, as no reasonable investor will keep his money were fire is burning.<\/p>\n

While it is the responsibility of the government, State and Local, to guarantee the security of lives and properties through effective policing system as well as other security structural arrangements, it is presently unbelievable that the Delta State Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, Our Local Government Chairmen and the Nigerian Police Force, have lost control over the security situation of Delta State.<\/p>\n

Factually, the Ubulu-Uku Community in Aniocha South LGA, Delta State, lost it’s Traditional Leader, HRM Edward Akazue Ofulue III, whose dead body was found after several weeks of being kidnapped, by a set of unknown Fulani herdsmen. While we are yet to recover from that irreplaceable lost of a loved Royal Father and the inability of our State Governor alongside the LGA Chairman of Aniocha South and the Nigeria Police Force, the news of the kidnapped of the 96year old Odio-ologbo of Olomoro Kingdom, HRM Josiah Umukoro Aghaza I, in Isoko South LGA of our State, rolled in. This is outside several recorded kidnapping cases that has taken place within the past 3months across the State.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Fulani herdsmen are on one hand wrecking untold havoc on local farmers across the State. Farmers have been denied full access to their farmlands, because the farms now serve as grazing fields for cattle.<\/p>\n

Just Few weeks ago, several farmers in Umeh Community in Isoko South LGA, were badly injured by some Fulani herdsmen, who have taken over the farms of the community dwellers. As if that is not enough, farmers in Uwheru, no longer go to their farms for the fear of being killed or raped by Fulani herdsmen, as men are being killed and women raped. The farmers are now made to pay certain amount of money to the herdsmen before accessing their farms. This has led to the economic deterioration of Uwheru town, as their groundnut and casava now grow rotten in the farms.<\/p>\n

It is rather unfortunate that the government has left Deltans to the mercy of Kidnappers. This is rather ridiculous, knowing fully well that the government is the Chief Custodian in charge of securing lives and properties. A responsive government will not take so likely the protection of lives and properties of its citizens. We strongly condemn this political negligence.<\/p>\n

Yes, the government inaugurated a 69-man Waterways and Land Security committee headed by Mr. Boro Opoudo, with Prof. Saliba Mukoro, Barr. Arthur Akpowowo and Isaac Onyeson as Advisers, and the committee has been given a mandate to ensure sustainable peace and security across the State. But we must say, this is not enough. The government should mobilize and motivate the Security Agencies in the State to quickly swing into productive actions in a bid to combat the unwholesome conduct of criminals and Fulani herdsmen in the State.<\/p>\n

Delta Elite Movement also recommends that a well planned espionage system should be immediately put in place by the Governor, to aid intelligence sourcing and gathering. This will help unmask criminals and reveal their hideouts. In addition, the government should set up rehabilitation programmes for convicted criminals, instead of releasing them into the society to be jobless and idle. That apart, grievous punishment should be instituted against kidnappings. Keeping arrested and convicted Kidnappers in the prison is simply not enough, looking at the increased rate in the crime. Capital punishment will go a long way to deter those seeing the inhuman activity as a veritable way of making a living.<\/p>\n

We also encourage our Local Government Chairmen to equally mobilize the local vigilante groups alongside security agents to tackle the ungodly conducts of the Fulani Herdsmen. They must not be allowed to jeopardize the economic activities and the lives of the rural dwellers like the case currently is, as this can further worsen the insecurity in our State.<\/p>\n

Finally, all Deltans must shun violence and illicit activities that are capable of wrecking havoc on their fellow countrymen, as no man has a justifiable reason to take the life of another or restrict his movement in an unlawful manner. We must imbibe the culture of reporting suspicious persons and moves to law enforcement agencies because it is our own lives that is affected at the end of the day.<\/p>\n
