\"UPU\"<\/a>The recent upsurge of partisan attacks against the soul of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) is becoming very distasteful. It now comes across as nothing but irresponsible politics. That becomes clearer as we see a vicious propaganda to drag our revered Kings (Ivies) into the fray. No matter how good their case may be, the sponsors of the attacks against the UPU should thread with caution.<\/p>\n

The UPU is a constitutional entity. It is not a Banana entity. It does not run on the anger of men. The UPU’s constitution clearly states how its leadership is installed and changed. Whoever has issues with the current leadership should endevour to exercise restraint or be patient to follow constitutional due process necessary to effect a leadership change at the right time. It is improper to extra-constitutionally invoke or drop the names of our kings to declare a change in the leadership of the 84-year old UPU institution, particularly when that is not correct. Propaganda does feed immediate sentiments but it fizzles out with time.<\/p>\n

Without any scintilla of doubt, all is definitely not well with the UPU. The beggarly attitude of some unlettered, half-lettered, and unconstitutional appendages of the Union has come under the radar of late. Much more problems abound. But I am unable to sign up to any martial style “immediate effect” solution to the challenges.<\/p>\n

Whoever that is fighting for the soul of the UPU with a partisan ideology is missing it. If we truly love the UPU, we must look back and learn from mistakes of the past. Because of our republican politics, I am convinced that partisan politics does not mix well with the Union. It destroys it.<\/p>\n

As modern people we must use the past to project into a better future. It is my humble personal position that we must largely divorce the UPU from active partisan roles if it must effectively play its umbrella role of looking after the interests of ALL.<\/p>\n

One can write on, but it is better to be restrained by our common interest as a Urhobos. Let us tone down the rhetorics and tame any partisan drive to go against the UPU.<\/p>\n

If this piece offends you, I must respectfully ask you as my own to rescind your anger. Look more at the need to protect our Union than personal axes to grind. After all, like Cartier Bagnoire in ‘Out of Nowhere’,<\/p>\n
