\"INEC-Chairman-Professor-Attahiru-Jega\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress on Thursday commended the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, for saying that the commission will not allow security operatives to be masked during the 2015 general elections.<\/p>\n

It also commended Jega for exposing the excesses of the security agents who not only arrested APC leaders on the eve of the election but also arrested National Youth Service Corps members who served as INEC ad hoc staff.<\/p>\n

The use of masked security operatives was a contentious issue during the Osun State governorship election during which masked security operatives were attached to the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Iyiola Omisore.<\/p>\n

The Osun APC in a statement signed by its Director of Publicity, Research and Strategy, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, said Jega\u2019s stance had vindicated the APC.<\/p>\n

Oyatomi further berated the spokesperson for the Department of State Service, Ms. Marilyn Ogar, for defending the deployment of masked security operatives as well as the arrest of some APC leaders in the state.<\/p>\n

The statement read, \u201cWe had informed the public that the PDP was planning to abuse and misuse the security personnel to terrorise, arrest and harass APC supporters and leaders before the election.<\/p>\n

\u201cJega has now told us that they even went beyond arresting APC leaders and supporters, they locked up, in their overzealousness, some INEC ad hoc workers.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we complained about hooded security officials, DSS spokesperson, Marilyn Ogar, in a very unprofessional outing, justified the deployment of such hooded security officials who almost killed our national publicity secretary,\u201d Alhaji Lai Mohammed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe thank God that Jega had come out publicly to condemn the deployment and to declare the occurrence unacceptable.\u201d<\/p>\n

The APC said Jega\u2019s claim that the use of masked security operatives for election was not in tandem with the principle of transparency guiding the conduct of an election, supported the party\u2019s claim that the PDP had planned to rig the Osun election.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
