{"id":5915,"date":"2015-09-01T22:33:56","date_gmt":"2015-09-01T22:33:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=5915"},"modified":"2015-09-01T22:33:56","modified_gmt":"2015-09-01T22:33:56","slug":"nigeria-to-use-drones-to-combat-crude-oil-theft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=5915","title":{"rendered":"Nigeria to use drones to combat crude oil theft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In what appears a radical attempt to tackle crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has served notice that drones would be deployed for monitoring.<\/p>\n<p>The Corporation also plans to split the Pipeline and Products Monitoring Company, PPMC into two companies, with one solely in charge of pipelines while the other would be in charge of products.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Kachikwu made the disclosure while speaking\u00a0at a one day seminar on Security in the Gulf of Guinea organised by the Gusau Institute in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>The NNPC boss said the NNPC under his leadership is introducing a whole lot of measures to check oil theft and to bring perpetrators to book, adding that\u00a0oil theft would be completely eradicated in the next eight months.<\/p>\n<p>Besides the introduction of drones to monitor the pipelines, he disclosed that efforts to patrol the country\u2019s coastal waters; equipping and increasing the capabilities of the security services to carry out their responsibilities as well as engagement of communities to police pipelines in their areas would be intensified.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that these are part of measures to ensure greater efficiency and transparency in the oil sector and position the NNPC to play its role in the growth of the Nigeria economy.<a href=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/oil.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-5569\" src=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/oil-300x156.jpg\" alt=\"oil\" width=\"300\" height=\"156\" srcset=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/oil-300x156.jpg 300w, http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/oil.jpg 311w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Delta-newsroom-logo.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5626\" src=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Delta-newsroom-logo.png\" alt=\"Delta newsroom logo\" width=\"270\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In what appears a radical attempt to tackle crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has served notice that drones would be deployed for monitoring.
