{"id":5565,"date":"2015-08-14T20:22:49","date_gmt":"2015-08-14T20:22:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=5565"},"modified":"2015-08-14T20:22:49","modified_gmt":"2015-08-14T20:22:49","slug":"eu-bans-some-nigeria-agric-products-for-a-high-level-of-unauthorized-pesticide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=5565","title":{"rendered":"EU bans some Nigeria agric products for \u2018a high level of unauthorized pesticide.\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is a setback for Nigeria as the country needs to expand its export basket to boost domestic agricultural activities and create jobs.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement from the European Food Safety Authority, the food substances were banned because they contained \u2018a high level of unauthorized pesticide.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Nigerian beans was banned because it contained between 0.03mg per kg to 4.6mg\/kg of dichlorvos pesticide when the acceptable maximum residue limit is 0.01mg\/kg.<\/p>\n<p>The Director-General, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Paul Orhii, said that exporters caused the problem by not complying with regulatory requirements for semi-processed and processed commodities.<\/p>\n<p>The ban is a reflection of the country\u2019s inability to adhere to global standards. Overturning the ban requires a firm approach to enforcing standards at all times.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, NAFDAC has warned against the consumption of imported or smuggled frozen poultry frozen meat, as it has been discovered to be a cause of non- communicable diseases (NCDs) and antibiotics resistance.<a href=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Beans.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5566\" src=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Beans.jpg\" alt=\"Beans\" width=\"290\" height=\"174\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is a setback for Nigeria as the country needs to expand its export basket to boost domestic agricultural activities and create jobs.
