Ado Ekiti\u2014Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ekiti State and All Progressives Congress, APC led Government of Kayode Fayemi, yesterday traded words over unpaid July salaries of teachers and council workers.<\/p>\n

While PDP claimed it was punitive measure by Fayemi to punish those he thought\u00a0\u00a0 did not vote for him during the June 21 governorship election, Governor Fayemi Administration, blamed the PDP\u00a0 for the problem, saying due to the paucity of fund the government used to raise money from the banks to pay salaries, but PDP had been raising undue alarm over it.<\/p>\n

PDP in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Pastor Kola Oluwawole said \u201cOur candidate, Mr. Ayo Fayose, defeated Fayemi squarely in the election by winning in all the 16 local governments and all segments of the society, including civil servants rejected Fayemi and the APC, at the poll. Fayemi has decided to punish those he perceived did not vote for him in the election, among whom were local government workers and teachers.<\/p>\n

Fayemi should let the people of the state know what is delaying the payment of the salaries of these people. He had money to pay his political appointees and even sent money to his illegally-created local council development areas. Fayemi should pay these workers without further delay.<\/p>\n

.\u201dThis governor should explain to Ekiti people what he is doing with the allocations that have come to Ekiti State from the Federal Government since June for them to know why the payment of workers\u2019 salaries has become a taboo to the government that claims to be people friendly.\u201d<\/p>\n

But reacting through the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Tayo\u00a0 Ekundayo, the government blamed PDP for the problem, explaining that the state government had always paid salary of civil servants and teachers with ease.<\/p>\n

Ekundayo said the state government used to raise money from banks to pay salary of workers due to the delay in federal allocation,\u00a0 saying \u201cWe have paid all the civil servants except the Local Government workers that we are owing July salary. We have never owed workers salary despite paucity of fund.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis thing happened because of the meddling of the PDP in the affairs of the state.\u00a0We used to obtain fund from banks to settle salary in the past pending when we will receive allocation, but the PDP advised banks not to deal with us. The banks thereby became circumspect in dealing with us. The meddling is not in the interest of the state; otherwise we would have paid all the workers. It is the PDP that should be blamed.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
