\"jonathan\"<\/a>Former president, Goodluck Jonathan, has described his journey into politics as a mistake.
\nSpeaking during a reception held in his honour in Bayelsa State, on Friday, May 29, Jonathan admitted that he had no intention of becoming the deputy governor of the state right from inception.
\nAccording to him as a civil servant he was moved to work with chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha\u2019s team, with the purpose of helping his community and not to run for any elective office.
\n\u201cWhen electioneering started after Abdusalami Abubakar took over, Alamieyeseigha did not call me. But somewhere along the line because we had worked together, one evening, Chief Gordons Bozimo and another person came to my house and asked me to run with Alamieyeseigha as deputy governor,\u201d Jonathan said.
\nHe said his initial response was to turn down the offer on the grounds that, he was not interested but later changed his mind.
\n\u201cThe detail will come later. That was how Bozimo and Alamieyeseigha brought me in and during the election, we won,\u201d he said.
\nJonathan, thanked Bayelsa people, Nigerians, for affording him the opportunity to serve as the deputy governor, governor, vice-president and president of the country.
\nHe expressed confidence that the new administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, will work and make Nigerians happy.
\n\u201cI am indeed happy about the statement the President made that he did not belong to any clique, but to Nigerians. I congratulate him for that,\u201d he added.
\nJonathan, elated by the warm reception he received in Bayelsa, said he was short of words to express his feelings. He also confessed that, he thought the people of the state would boo and curse him for some decisions he made while in office.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Former Governor of Bayelsa State, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha has disclosed that Patience Jonathan tried stopping her husband, former President Goodluck Jonathan from venturing into politics.<\/p>\n

Mr. Alamieyeseigha said at a banquet organised by the Bayelsa State Government, as part of programmes for a civic reception in honour of the former President at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Yenagoa.<\/p>\n

He said, ”Patience was not happy that Jonathan was chosen to be my deputy governor. She said she would not like him to go into politics. She said they were comfortable the way they were”.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
