No fewer than seven of the invited overseas-based Super Eagles players arrived on Monday for the friendly match between Nigeria and the Cranes of Uganda. When The Deltanewsroom.com<\/em> checked at 7pm, the team bus had returned to the Uyo airport to pick up more the players who arrived for the game billed to hold on Wednesday at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium in Uyo.<\/p>\n

Super Eagles media officer Toyin Ibitoye told our correspondent it was likely that nearly 90 per cent of the team would be in by Monday.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cBy the time the bus returns we should have a clearer picture of everyone that has arrived.\u201d<\/p>\n

Team captain Vincent Enyeama was among those expected on that ride from the airport. The earlier arrivals had Godfrey Oboabona, Kenneth Omeruo, Ahmed Musa, Odion Ighalo and Aaron Samuel.<\/p>\n

The Ugandans also arrived in Uyo on Monday.<\/p>\n

Nigeria Football Federation officials reconfirmed that the government of the state and citizens were excited to be hosts of the game, which pits the three-time African champions against the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations runners-up. The statement followed an earlier report on Monday which claimed that the match had been moved to Abuja at the request of the Ugandans.<\/p>\n

NFF President Amaju Pinnick said, \u201cWe have been discussing with the government of Akwa Ibom State over the past few months and nothing has changed.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have never had any problem with the government. They are desirous of hosting big games at the marvellous venue that everyone calls the Nest of Champions.\u201d<\/p>\n

The delegation of Uganda\u2019s Cranes, which arrived in Abuja aboard an Ethiopian Airline flight on Monday, were accommodated at the Le Meridien Hotel in Uyo with their hosts.<\/p>\n

Wednesday\u2019s match will kick off at 6pm.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, President Goodluck Jonathan received the FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup trophy, which is on a tour of all 24 nations that have qualified to take part in the seventh edition of the global finals in Canada starting in June.<\/p>\n

At a forum with Nigeria\u2019s Young Professionals at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Lagos, NFF president Pinnick introduced the surprise addition to the programme with FIFA Development Officer Rahman Zelkifli Ngoufonja presenting the trophy to Jonathan just after the U20 national team, the Flying Eagles, won a seventh continental title in Dakar, Senegal.<\/p>\n

Ngoufonja, who was accompanied by Marie-Paule Epse and Diallo Souleymane, said he was delighted at personally handing over the trophy to Jonathan.<\/p>\n
