The Peoples Democratic Party members of the House of Representatives have begun mobilising against moves by All Progressives Congress lawmakers to impeach President Goodluck Jonathan.<\/p>\n

This came as Deltanewsroom.com<\/em> got additional information on how 113 lawmakers began signing on Thursday to remove the President.<\/p>\n

Findings showed that after Thursday\u2019s stormy session, the PDP members immediately started making contacts on how to counter the impeachment moves.<\/p>\n

House insiders confided in\u00a0Deltanewsroom.com<\/em> that members were advised against listening to their APC colleagues, especially now that the country was facing serious security challenges.<\/p>\n

The message to all members was that any impeachment of the President would only worsen the situation of the country, \u201cwith obvious consequences for our democracy and all Nigerians.\u201d<\/p>\n

One source said, \u201cThis is just not the time to talk about impeachment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe PDP caucus will stop them; what we should be talking about is how to address the security situation in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is insurgency and the extension of the state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states, which was rejected by the House on Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat is what we should concern ourselves with, not impeachment that will do nobody any good.\u201d<\/p>\n

Investigations showed that though the APC lawmakers had long threatened that they would initiate impeachment proceedings against Jonathan if the PDP made attempts to remove the Speaker, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, they did not take the matter seriously until the police locked down the National Assembly on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Deltanewsroom.com<\/em>\u00a0gathered that the members considered the lock down an affront on the legislature and the office of the speaker, a member of the APC.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a clear case of disregard for democratic values and the laws of the land.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat did they want to achieve by locking the speaker and all those members out?<\/p>\n

\u201cThe police did not only shut the gates of the assembly, they threw tear gas at the Speaker and members.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat act was a total disgrace, taking place when there is a restraining order against any plan to stop the speaker from presiding over the House\u201d, another source added.<\/p>\n
