{"id":2832,"date":"2014-11-05T12:36:36","date_gmt":"2014-11-05T12:36:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=2832"},"modified":"2014-11-05T12:36:36","modified_gmt":"2014-11-05T12:36:36","slug":"dike-rejects-7000-world-cup-bonus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=2832","title":{"rendered":"Dike rejects $7,000 World Cup bonus"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_2833\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2833\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Dike-360x225.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2833\" alt=\"Dike\" src=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Dike-360x225-300x187.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"187\" srcset=\"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Dike-360x225-300x187.jpg 300w, http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Dike-360x225-128x80.jpg 128w, http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/Dike-360x225.jpg 360w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2833\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Dike<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Oklahoma State Football team forward Courtney Dike has rejected the $7000 paid to her by the Nigeria Football Federation for participating at 2014 FIFA U-20 Women\u2019s World Cup in Canada saying the honour of playing for the country was enough reward for her.<\/p>\n<p>The 19-year-old, who is the younger sister of Super Eagles forward Bright Dike, represented the country at the competition where she scored the fastest goal in the tournament\u2019s history.<\/p>\n<p>NFF Head of Competition Sanusi Mohammed told Sports Radio, <em>Brila FM<\/em>, that the player rejected the outstanding allowances accrued to her for representing the country at the 10-day tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Sanusi told Brila FM, \u201cWhen we called her mother to confirm the delivery of the allowances, she declined it and insisted that the opportunity of playing for Nigeria was all the reward the family needed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dike\u2019s elder brother, Bright, featured for Nigeria at the 2013 Confederations Cup in Brazil but missed the 2014 World Cup by a foot injury which side-lined him for four months.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the head of the Nigeria Women League board Dilichukwu Onyedinma has said the player deserves a national award for her patriotic act.<\/p>\n<p>The Women\u2019s league boss told Football live, a programme on <em>Brila FM<\/em>, that what Dike did was worth emulating by other players in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Dilichukwu told Football live, \u201cShe is a star and patriotic Nigerian who put service to her fatherland above money.
