{"id":24776,"date":"2020-08-08T22:46:26","date_gmt":"2020-08-08T22:46:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=24776"},"modified":"2020-08-08T22:46:26","modified_gmt":"2020-08-08T22:46:26","slug":"benin-sapele-expressway-is-an-eyesore-nuj-demands-fg-immediate-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newsroom247.com.ng\/?p=24776","title":{"rendered":"Benin\/Sapele Expressway is an Eyesore: NUJ Demands FG Immediate Action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/alternativeadvert.com\/show.php?z=30&amp;pl=19271&amp;ad_type=81&amp;rl=1800\" width=\"336\" height=\"280\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Warri Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called on the Federal Government to urgently fixed the failed portions on the Benin\/Sapele Expressway.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">In a statement issued on Saturday signed by Mr Okies\u00a0 Veeky and Mrs. Betty Idialu, chairman and Assistant Secretary respectively of the Warri Correspondents Chapel said that the call had became necessary to ameliorate the suffering motorists and commuters were undergoing on the ever busy road.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">They disclosed that members of the chapel had carried out a tour of the road to ascertain the degree of it&#8217;s deplorable state following the persistent outcry by motorists.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The NUJ Warri Chapel noted that the road would sooner be cut off should urgent steps was not taken to address it.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">According to the statement, the worst affected part on the road was the stretch between Koko Junction in Delta State and parts of Ologbo in Edo State.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;As a union, we can no longer keep mute while the Federal Government continues to neglect the only access road that link the West to the South South region of the country.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;The earlier government intervenes the better.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">They recalled how some motorists had spent days on some bad spots on the road.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">According to the statement, a truck driver identified as simply as Mr, Tunde who was conveying goods\u00a0 from Port Harcourt to Kano had his truck stuck in one of the bad portions on the road.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">Mr. Tunde have this to say, &#8220;I have spent almost one week in this Ologbo village because my truck ran into a ditch.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;I have been sleeping under the cold since waiting for another truck that will tow mine own from this ditch.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;I want to plead with the Federal Government to please come to our aid.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">&#8220;Government is the only one we can cry to, we are really suffering and also losing money in this road.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">The Warri Correspondents Chapel of the NUJ recalled that a similar situation had occurred in 2019 within the Adeje axis on the Warri\/Sapele Expressway.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">They, however, said that it took the intervention of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta to mobilise contractor\u00a0 to carry out some palliative repairs on\u00a0 failed portions of the road to ease the suffering of the people.<\/div>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/alternativeadvert.com\/show.php?z=30&amp;pl=19271&amp;ad_type=81&amp;rl=1800\" width=\"336\" height=\"280\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Warri Correspondents Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has called on the Federal Government to urgently fixed the failed portions on the Benin\/Sapele Expressway.
