Nicholas Mutu is a quintessential parliamentarian and a political juggernaut, a goal-getter who is the longest serving parliamentarian in the history of Nigerian House of Representative, going the way like the Australian parliamentarian,Bill Hughes\u00a0 who served his people for 51 years consecutively and his people wanted him more on his\u00a0 robust and efficient representation .<\/p>\n<p><span data-offset-key=\"bvg8p-0-0\">&#8220;Hon. Nicholas Mutu won his first election in 1999 under the platform of the People Democratic Party (PDP) from Bomadi\/Patani federal constituency in Delta state. His legislative skill and good leadership earned him the office without a break for 20 years now and still counting as he is to be sworn-in for the sixth time in the same job. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-offset-key=\"bvg8p-0-0\">He is set for a ground breaking record as the longest serving parliamentarian in Africa in the Guinness book of records.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_3041344471669627016ydpe5606668yiv7349131018ydp8b59928MsoNormal\">The Ijaw born 58 years old parliamentarian is wonderfully doing creditably well and that has endeared the hearts of his constituents for numerous political victories with a clean slate much like the Australian longest serving parliamentarian Bill Hughes who served his people in the lower house for \u00a0over 51 years service. There are others like Philip Ruddock,42 years service, Sir Earle Page 41 years service, George Peace 37 years Sir Walter Cooper 37 years service,\u00a0 Norman Markin 36 years and many others who have served exclusively in the house in the parliament over many years for being true and genuine as they elected democratically by the electorates following their sterling track records\/performances.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_3041344471669627016ydpe5606668yiv7349131018ydp8b59928MsoNormal\">Bill Hughes ,\u00a0 CH,KC\u00a0(25 September 1862\u00a0\u2013 28 October 1952) was an Australian politician who served as the\u00a07<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0prime minister of Australa in office from 1915 to 1923. He is best known for leading the country\u00a0 during World War 1, but his influence on national politics spanned several decades. Hughes was a member of federal parliament from\u00a0federation\u00a0in 1901 until his death only the person\u00a0to have served for more than 50 years. He represented six political parties during his career, leading five, outlasting four, and being expelled from three.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_3041344471669627016ydpe5606668yiv7349131018ydp8b59928MsoNormal\">Hughes was born in London to \u00a0Welsh parents. He emigrated to Australia at the age of 22, and became involved in the fledgling labour movement. He was elected to the\u00a0 New South Wales legislative assembly in 1894, as a member of the\u00a0 New South Wales party and then transferred to the new federal parliament in 1901. Hughes combined his early political career with part-time legal studies, and was called to bar in 1903. He first entered cabinet in 1904, in the short-lived Watson Government, and was later\u00a0\u00a0 Attorney General in each of\u00a0 Andrew Fisher\u2019s governments. He was elected deputy leader of the\u00a0 Australian Labour Party in 1914.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_3041344471669627016ydpe5606668yiv7349131018ydp8b59928MsoNormal\">Hon. Nicholas Mutu\u00a0 is much more than a grassroot politician who understands the political calculation\/language and as well as his strong \u00a0romance with the local people (voters) in his constituency unlike others who visit their constituents only when new time table for election is announced by the Independent\u00a0 National Electoral commission. Nicholas Mutu, it is obvious that his secret of qualitative and people oriented leadership made him different from others as the people willingly democratically elected him to represent them without imposition by party leadership.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_3041344471669627016ydpe5606668yiv7349131018ydp8b59928MsoNormal\">The last concluded election was a striking example of \u00a0Nicholas Mutu on how he defeated his co-opponents in the party primaries. His PDP primary was worrisome to his supporters as very powerful two contestants from his constituency contested with him. RT. Hon. Basil Ganagana, a former Speaker Delta state house of assembly and a grassroot politician and another heavy weight, the pioneer President of the famous Ijaw youths council (IYC) world-wide Dr. Felix Tuodolo.\u00a0 With the presence of these powerful contestants against Nicholas Mutu, all political pundits were of the opinion that Nicholas Mutu will be replaced by any his co-contestants within the PDP family. But his followers, those he has touched positively by changing their lives remained firm on their resolve to re-elect him again and again as against all speculations. According to them, lawmaking is not by speaking plenty grammar on television and newspaper without bring anything on table of his constituents . But it is by using his position to influence policies\/programmes and projects for the benefit of his people. A close source to Nicholas Mutu said that the controversial Marine Time University was put to rest in favour of the Ijaws of Gbaramatu through the robust and negotiating prowess of Nicholas Mutu who changed the narrative at the green chamber by lobbying and negotiation. For that reason, he is \u00a0popularly taunted as Mr. Project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_3041344471669627016ydpe5606668yiv7349131018ydp8b59928MsoNormal\"><b>Career<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_3041344471669627016ydpe5606668yiv7349131018ydp8b59928MsoNormal\">Hon.\u00a0Nicholas served as the Chairman of Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State from 1996 to 1997.\u00a0In\u00a01999 he was\u00a0elected into the Federal House of Representatives to represent Bomadi\/Patani Federal Constituency of Delta State under the platform of the People\u2019s Democratic Party (PDP). He has won re-election bids in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015 all under the platform of PDP.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_3041344471669627016ydpe5606668yiv7349131018ydp8b59928MsoNormal\">Hon. Nicholas has served in various House Committees including;\u00a0Banking &amp; Currency, Niger Delta, Governmental Affairs, Sports, and Federal Capital Territory. He \u00a0blended himself into their secret caucus of many ethnic parliamentarian caucuses as experienced lawmaker.. He is a rallying point by all and sundry across board as people consult him on important matters in the green chambers. He has a strong affinity with the Hausas\/Fulani block and had more top \u00a0political connection in the Northern flank of the country than his South-Southern counterparts based on \u00a0his fluent Hausa\/Fulani language prowess as a edge ahead of others. That he was born and bred from the North. Some said \u00a0his parents sojourned to the North on business trip and grew up there before relocating to the South-South which brought him close to the Usmas Dan Fodio power which perhaps, \u00a0he enjoys their blessings as well as the longest serving parliamentarian in Nigeria, despite the unstable murky waters of politics. Rt. Hon. Nicholas Mutu deserves a critical study by students of politics . His other top secret as was revealed he is a fervent Christian who never plays with the work of God.
